Thames Water has said that repairs to several burst water mains in the Dulwich area are expected to take a few days to complete, according to Southwark News. The problem was reported at midday on Monday, October 11, and affects Lordship Lane, London Road near the Horniman Museum and Dulwich Common.

Residents in Dulwich, Forest Hill and parts of Sydenham have seen low water pressure or interruptions to their supply. Thames Water has brought in tankers to pump extra water into the network while work continues, and warned that customers in high-rise buildings may notice lower pressure.

Traffic management remains on Sydenham Rise, with temporary three-way traffic lights and pedestrian crossing arrangements. This has led to congestion on nearby roads. One of the broken mains has already been fixed and put back into service, and Thames Water says it is repairing the remaining pipes in turn to keep traffic disruption to a minimum.

"We apologise for the ongoing disruption these works are causing, and thank local residents, businesses and road users for their continued patience and understanding."

What it means in practice

If you live or work in the affected parts of south London, you may see lower water pressure at the tap or, in some buildings, a temporary loss of supply. Traffic on Sydenham Rise and surrounding roads will remain slower than usual while the repairs are carried out.

  • Check your water — if your supply is affected, Thames Water advises that high-rise customers may have lower pressure until the work is finished.
  • Plan your journey — temporary lights and crossing arrangements are in place on Sydenham Rise, so allow extra time or find another route.
  • Report problems — if you have no water or very low pressure, contact Thames Water directly so they can log your case.
